Steven Pakasathanan is a craftsman through and through, an electrical engineer and the founder and managing director of the electrical company PakaInvest and of ProtocolHero in Cologne. In the watts-up interview he describes how everyday problems in training, bureaucracy and customer communication led him to innovative solutions that today help far more people than just himself.

His company focuses on charging infrastructure, smart home and classic electrical installation. Across Instagram and other channels Steven now reaches around 80,000 followers – not for monetary reasons, but to pass knowledge on to businesses and young people and to strengthen the electrical trade as an ambassador for modern technology.

A €70,000 legal dispute negotiated over WhatsApp made one thing painfully clear: communication tools are not legally sound documentation. That experience sparked the core idea for ProtocolHero – documents that can be opened instantly, filled out quickly, signed digitally and captured with photos, video and text.

Today ProtocolHero is a cross-trade software solution built on a modular principle: templates for key handovers, construction acceptance or test protocols can be filled out directly on a smartphone or iPad. AI agents read measured values from a photo, detect defects and automatically build a structure – all the way to a digital signature and a shared document for the customer.

It began with a dream

It was three in the morning. I woke up from a dream that felt too real. I knew no one would believe me. So I walked for hours – and what happened next, I would never have thought possible…
