Structure and Purpose of Deluge Water Spray Systems
Deluge water spray systems feature a piping network with permanently open nozzles. Unlike classic sprinkler systems where individual heads open thermally, a deluge system floods the entire protected area simultaneously. This is essential in high-risk industrial environments such as cable tunnels, transformers, or chemical storage facilities to prevent rapid fire spread.
Maintenance according to VdS 2109 requires a precise inspection of all system components, as the extinguishing water must discharge unimpeded through all nozzles instantly. Blockages, corrosion, or mechanical damage to the piping network can compromise the hydraulic design and jeopardize the extinguishing effect.
