When text and photos are not enough, the drawing pad lets your team mark damage, sketch layouts, or annotate plans inside ProtocolHero — on site, in preview, and in the PDF.

Add the Drawing Pad to the template
Open the template in the Protocol Builder and add the Drawing Pad block where you want users to create a sketch later on for example, after a photo field or in the “Defects / Sketch” section. Give the block a clear label so users know what is expected, such as “Site Sketch” or “Marking on Plan”.
Optional: Prepare a background image
If you want to work on an existing image, you can add a background image for example, a scanned plan, a photo of a room, or an image from the protocol. Users can then draw directly on top of it. Without a background image, you start with a blank canvas, which is ideal for quick on-site sketches.
Get to know the tools
The Drawing Pad includes tools such as a pen, highlighter, eraser, lines, arrows, rectangles, and circles. Use full-screen mode if you need more space for drawing on a mobile device. Undo and redo allow you to correct strokes and shapes, while duplicate and group functions make recurring markings easier to manage.
Create a sketch while filling out the protocol
Start a submission from the template and open the Drawing Pad where you added it. Draw directly on site (even offline), provided your submission workflow supports offline use. The drawing will then be synchronized with the submission. Save the block before completing the protocol to make sure nothing is lost.
Review and export as PDF
Review the sketch in the submission view or preview. When exporting the protocol as a PDF, the drawing is included automatically. Your customer or client receives the image in the context of the complete protocol rather than as a separate file.
